Directed by Ahn Jin Woo, Live Good, a.k.a. Mission Sex Control, takes a tongue-in-cheek look at 1970s
Korea . Starring Lee Bum Soo (The City of
Violence , Singles) and Kim Jung Eun (Lovers in Paris), the film centers around the Korean government's gung ho birth control initiative and one particularly fertile village. Filled with pastoral small-town charm and rosy-cheeked revolutionary-opera atmosphere, the colorfully nostalgic Live Good presents a hilarious account of simpler times.
Worried that population growth would impede economic growth, the Korean government initiates a national zero population growth policy, but the plucky residents of Yongdu village just won't stop making babies. Family planning officer Park Hyun Joo (Kim Jung Eun) shows up at the village to curtail the fertility rate through contraceptives education and nighttime surveillance. As a young single woman, however, Hyun Joo isn't exactly the most suitable person for the task so she enlists the help of Byun Suk Goo (Lee Bum Soo) to make a deal with the locals. With the village chief holding out for a son and the president coming for inspection, will Hyun Joo be able to hit the magic number - 0% birth rate? |
